Summer is nearly over and the best time of the year is right around the corner. The day after Labor Day marks the beginning of what many in Newport Beach have coined “locals summer.” That fateful day when schools are back in session, and the kids no longer rule the land. The water and the beaches are all but empty, blackball is history, and the potential for another hurricane swell is the talk of the town.
This is a great opportunity to grab your favorite board and have a nice little beach day. Those quiet early morning surf checks, where the air-temp has dropped slightly. When we get glassy conditions, the chance of offshore winds, blazing sun and empty lineups. The time of year when a small Southern Hemi swell happens to combo up with a nice little west, resulting in all the ingredients for the “best session of the year so far!” These are the days we’ve been waiting for, summer beach crowds have subsided, there’s plenty of parking, and fun waves from Blackies to River Jetties.
So come grab a board and get out there!
